What is stress and how to lower it – Part 2

In our previous article we discussed how stress can come about leading to stress disorders. In this article, we show you one method that you can easily turn to that will reduce your stress.

The great benefit of drawing is that it allows you to redirect your attention to something that is calm and undistracted. It takes little effort to be carried away in a drawing which has the potential to reduce your cortisol, a stress hormone. You can learn more about this stress hormone from the post below.

How to remove cortisol from the body naturally

The article also recommends that to reduce cortisol and to keep it in check, one should pick up a hobby. Unfortunately, many people often turn to the easiest route ie. watching TV or consuming alcohol.

Drawing can not only be a stress-reducer, it can also be very fun. We all know when something is fun, there are positive health benefits to be gained from it. For this exercise, we are simply going to draw circles. The repetitive nature of doing something allows your mind to get distracted with the task and thus take away any immediate anxieties or stressful thoughts. The ongoing anxiety that never seems to go away is particularly more harmful and this is where drawing can be tremendously beneficial.

When you try this exercise of tracing first the circles and then trying to do it by freehand, you will obtain a sense of empowerment. A simple exercise such as drawing a circle will keep your mind locked in the movements of your hand while at the same time you focus on the next set of strokes. As you are doing the drawing, you will note how the shape of the circle is tending from the ideal circle. The exercise is not an attempt to make you a better drawer but to follow the intricacies of the drawing and to get lost in your thoughts.

I’m completely new to writing a blog however I do write in my journal on a daily basis.

I’d like to start a blog so I will be able to share my personal experience and views online.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or tips for new aspiring bloggers.
