Draw a Female Anime Portrait | Line drawing with Paintology

The previous tutorial on drawing an anime portrait won quite a lot of fans. You can find this tutorial at the end of the post.

Here we are going to do something similar by using the line brush but add a few touches like the gray shade to give it visual impact. Here is the completed drawing and you can see the video which is also in this post.

Like with all anime characters, the eyes are a lot bigger than normal but the visual effect is good. It is one of the reasons, why anime has been very popular with youngsters and adults alike.

In this trace drawing, you will use mainly one size line brush (in black) and use this to trace around the character. I go around using this same brush to develop most of the outline. I did switch to a slightly thicker brush for the shoulder and neck lines.

For the gray shadows, it was just a matter of switching to that color while in the line brush tool setting. You will notice that I reduce the brush accordingly for some of the details. The zoom and orientation feature of the Paintology app is useful to focus in the details and orientate the canvas to the most comfortable drawing position. For example, when you drawing a smooth curve it is better to let your finger or stylus to sweep the arch in the most natural direction possible.

It is a very good idea to work quick in this drawing, since this will allow for more smooth lines. Don’t worry about making mistakes, if you continue to work, you will only improve.
