Learn the shades of gray | Paintology pencil drawing app
One of the techniques all artists learn when drawing is to appreciate the gray color tone.
This becomes even more important when drawing with pencil, charcoal etc. since they just involve black and gray tones.
In this drawing you will not only appreciate the gray color tones, but the tones as applied to a real drawing such as this. You will no doubt have heard from many teachers of art the color tones of a landscape where we have sharp and darker tones in the foreground with the muted colors in the far distant.
The appreciation of how colors and tones are used in landscape can have a significant impact on the visualization of the drawing or painting. This can dramatically enhance the perspective and depth of the painting or drawing.
Take another look at this photo with only trees in the picture.
Notice how the picture gives a sense of depth and at the same time the illusion of fog. This is a perfect picture to draw in gray tones and appreciate how color tones work in an actual real image. In order to make a drawing that replicates the same atmosphere as the picture, I suggest you use charcoal or dark toned pencils greater than 2B.
Why use the traditional method of drawing when you can use your phone!
