Our Mission and Values

About Paintology

Paintology is a specialized digital drawing and painting platform designed to bridge the gap between traditional fine art and the digital world. Unlike mainstream apps like Photoshop or Procreate, which often prioritize complex software tools (like auto-smoothing or AI filters), Paintology focuses strictly on teaching art fundamentals.

It was founded by Dr. Ferdouse Khaleque, a PhD graduate from Imperial College London, whose goal was to create a "Natural Drawing" experience that works on everything from a smartphone to a 65-inch giant tablet.

Key Philosophies of Paintology

  • Fundamental Focus: The app is built on the belief that if you learn the core principles of tone, shading, and composition, you can draw on any medium—digital or physical.
  • "No Shortcuts" Method: It discourages the use of digital crutches. For example, instead of using a "blending tool," Paintology teaches you to blend manually through tonal values and brush opacity, mimicking the way an oil painter or charcoal artist works.
  • Gamified Learning: The platform features a structured "ladder" of over 500 free tutorials, ranging from Beginner to Expert levels, allowing users to earn points and climb world rankings as they improve.

Unique Features & Innovation

  • Block Coloring: A patented method designed to help beginners understand colors and tones quickly by "blocking" in areas of a reference image.
  • Strokes-Based Pedagogy: Every drawing is treated as a sequence of intentional strokes. This process is so detailed that it has been used in academic discussions regarding Visual Literacy and even Cognitive Health monitoring.
  • Tridigital Transition: Specifically designed for traditional artists who find digital tools overwhelming. The interface is stripped back to essentials: a brush, a canvas, and your skills.
  • High-Scale Potential: As demonstrated in several viral videos, the app’s engine is powerful enough to be used on large-scale touch displays (up to 65 inches), turning a digital screen into a physical fine-art easel.
