Capturing light in Landscape Drawing

Landscapes is probably one of the most likely subjects any artist would pick to develop their artistic skills. You can develop skills in tone values by doing landscapes which will help you with other types of drawings, for example, portraits.

The advantage of doing landscapes, is that the scene can be random in nature such as trees where you don’t have to render everything like you see. It is more forgiving and allow you to develop important skills. In this drawing we will try to capture the light that shines through the trees and gives the whole picture a lift as opposed to just the snowy trees. The orange/brown light gives it some warmth to the picture.
