The Paintology app is a fairly simple but a powerful app to use with your Android smartphone or tablets. It will allow you to create numerous drawings with the powerful tools available and extend your creativity skills. It has a very intuitive interface that takes less than minutes to get going and we have prepared a quick guide here for reference.

Before we embark on the first lesson, I would recommend that you use a pen rather than your finger as it will allow you more precise control over the drawing area than just using your finger. You can get hold of a stylus for your phone or tablet by visiting your nearest phone or electronics store.

We will create a composition with some more details in this beginners course, lesson 2, please see fig. lesson-2-original. What we are going to learn from this exercise is to create more details by having the subject matter closer to the viewer.

For this lesson, I have picked up a painting (fig. 1) that will teach you some of the intricacies of what constitutes a landscape and should enable you to create better landscape paintings.

We are going to draw the mountain landscape shown in fig. 1. You want to pick out a blue canvas and select the spray tool to make the artwork. First, use a spray with a whitish color to draw the outline of the main features in the drawing (fig. 2).

One of the important features of any landscape are reflections such as lakes, seas etc. and we need to render this correctly in any painting to make the whole painting more believable. Fig. 1 shows the painting that we will undertake in this first Advanced Course lesson.

For this Advanced Digital Art Course – Lesson 2 we are going to create another landscape that shows more details and perspective using a combination of brush styles, including spray, custom and line tools. Fig. 1 shows the final rendered painting where we’ve managed to capture a cold scene with the snow capped trees in the foreground.

The painting in this lesson will introduce you to more practice on the perspective that are essential to landscape paintings. For this lesson we are going to paint the completed painting in fig. 4 drawn in Paintology using only a select few brush styles.
