Digital Drawing & Painting – Big boulders

This painting was based on a a picture I found on the internet and I was impressed by the colors of the sky as well as the boulder shaped stones in the landscape. There were essentially a lot of contours rather than details which made the painting easier to do. I started off by picking out the correct canvas color and then drawing the sky and then the details of the land starting at the horizon and working downwards.

As mentioned before, always pick easy subjects that look nice to paint. Just like a painting that is built by layers until you produce something noteworthy, you also build up experience that you build up to become better and better in painting. To get ideas for your next painting project and it doesn’t have to be complex, browse through the zillions of photos on the internet and give yourself 30 mins. to an hour and go happy painting!
