Paintology Paint by Number | Draw a landscape (detailed) | Traced method approach

This is a new series of Paintology by Numbers where you can take your drawing skills to a whole new level!

In this drawing of a picturesque nature landscape, we use the trace method of making this drawing. In this approach, you do not need to check for every color with the corresponding number to do your painting since you make use of the color picker.

When you open the tutorial, please watch the video to see the way I make this painting by number landscape. You need to keep the trace bar just above the halfway mark so you can select colors from the traced reference image loaded into your canvas. You maintain this spot while you continue to draw the areas underneath on top of your canvas. Don’t worry too much on the contours of the line exactly and I generally stick to one line brush size to go rapidly through the regions.

If you watch the video, you will see that I continue to draw rapidly to fill the regions since I didn’t want to spend too much time going over the tiny details. Once, I had covered the regions with the colors, I went over the painting again without any reference to the underlying image and just focusing on adding details with my own eye. This can take some practice on the part of the beginner since I am already a reasonable artist and have an instinct for composition. However, you may want to first go over the ‘white’ that is yet to be filled and fill it with an adjacent color from the color picker palette. The color palette becomes more useful at this stage and I go through each color to ‘enhance’ the overall composition. I wasn’t sure how it would come out but I think you will agree that the effort was worthwhile.

I will bring more tutorials like this which is another approach to help you with your overall drawing skills and techniques.

Please post any comments in the boxes below and I will be sure to answer them.
