sunset - photo realistic

Photorealistic drawing using Paintology – a time lapse video

We all equate photorealism or photorealistic drawings to the traditional medium and very little is found in the digital medium. When there are a few examples of this the drawing inevitably looks ‘digital’. This is mainly because too many digital effects are used for the drawing ie. smoothing of lines, region color fill, layers and these tools while being complex makes the final drawing appear a bit too artificial or unreal.

When doing photo realism drawings using the traditional medium, one doesn’t work with layers, digital effects etc. just the pure and unadulterated use of mediums such as watercolors, acrylics, pastels etc. and the creative genius of the artist. You could say humans are master of their own tools and this becomes more evident when you see traditional hype realistic drawings.

Paintology does not dwell too much on the tools and leaves the creative elements and skill to the artist at hand and thus you can also create photo realistic drawings with this app. Watch the video below to see how this is possible.

In this photo realistic drawing, I use a minimum set of tools to create this sunset drawing, you really don’t need fancy tools or software to create this type of artwork as most people like to think so! This was done on my android tablet using a stylus.
